The Cove: A Powerful Call to Action!
Holy Trinity College is committed towards collaboration with different Non-Government Organizations (NGOs) to tackle prevailing challenges as well as actions for Sustainable Development Goals. The institution’s NSTP-CWTS 1 students and the SSC witnessed the wildlife conservation on September 28, 2024, during the special film viewing of “The Cove.” Partnering with the Earth Island Institute, this event at the JTA Building EMC3 served as a potent reminder that the voices of those who cannot speak for themselves must be heard and acted upon. The institution channeling this awareness into tangible efforts to #SaveTheDolphins.
This activity is align with the following SDGs:
- SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals. The event itself was a successful collaboration among several groups: the Supreme Student Council (SSC), NSTP-CWTS students, and the non-governmental organization, Earth Island Institute Philippines. This demonstrates a strong multi-stakeholder partnership, a key component of SDG 17, to mobilize, share knowledge, and promote collective action toward a shared sustainable development goal (marine conservation).
- SDG 14: Life Below Water. Since the core focus of the event was the protection of marine wildlife, specifically dolphins, as highlighted in the film “The Cove”, the activity directly supports the SDG’s goal to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development by raising awareness about the threats faced by marine ecosystems and advocating for an end to harmful practices.
- SDG 4: Quality Education. The entire event was structured as an educational initiative. By screening a powerful documentary and facilitating a “crucial dialogue,” the event ensured that NSTP-CWTS students and participants were provided with relevant and effective learning outcomes regarding environmental and wildlife conservation. This aligns with the SDG’s target to ensure all learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote sustainable development.
