Learning Beyond the Classroom: HTC Partners with DSWD to Expand Educational Support for Communities

Holy Trinity College of General Santos City (HTC), through its Social Orientation and Community Involvement Office (SOCI), in collaboration with the College of Arts and Sciences and the College of Teacher Education, participated in the General Orientation conducted by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Regional Office for the “Tara, Basa! Tutoring Program.” The orientation was led by Mr. Janmark B. Lapiz, Project Development Officer II of the DSWD Regional Office.

The initiative is a DSWD educational assistance program designed to support disadvantaged and struggling readers in public elementary schools. Through the program, college students are equipped to serve as tutors, helping young learners strengthen their reading skills. They also take on the role of Youth Development Workers (YDWs), facilitating Nanay-Tatay learning sessions that encourage parents to support their children’s learning at home.

Through this partnership, HTC prepares its student volunteers to contribute to literacy development and help address educational challenges in underserved communities. By extending learning support to children and their families, the program promotes more inclusive access to education and strengthens the role of community engagement in improving essential educational services.

The collaboration reflects HTC’s continuing commitment to community development through Serbisyong Trinitarian, demonstrating how partnerships with government agencies can mobilize students and academic institutions to address local needs and create meaningful social impact.
